Indian hockey team scored 3-2 over Pakistan to claim the Asian Champions Trophy , bringing it home at perfect time as Diwali gift. Goals made by Rupinder Pal Singh , Yousuf Affan and Nikkin Thimmaiah enabled India to overpower the Pakistani challenge.
It was the first time since 2014 the Indian team was meeting Pakistani team in the final of a continental tournament. The inaugural Asian Champian trophy tournament held in 2011 was won by India. In 2013 Pakistan claimed it by defeating Japan.
India entered this year’s final match which was held at Kuantan Hockey Stadium, without his ace player PR Sreejesh, who suffering from pulled hamstring. He was replaced by Akash Chikte.The match was truly breath taking at appoint where both the teams were at 2-2. But Indian team showed the wit and patience to score the winner while defending all attempts by Pakistan.
